Imli Tofee

 

It is a very simple recipe and mostly liked by all age groups. It is made from very limited ingredients and of course, as depicted from the name Tamarind (املی) is the key ingredient. Now let’s see what the required ingredients are and how to make this simple, easy, quick and delicious/tasty recipe in our kitchen at home.

Ingredients:

1. Tamarind (املی): 250 Grams

2. Jaggery (گڑ): 150 Grams

3. Soft Dates (نرم کھجور): 100 Grams

4. Black Salt (کالا نمک): 1 Tea Spoon

5. Table Salt (سفید نمک): 1 Tea Spoon (or as per taste)

6. Red Chili (سرخ مرچ) Powder: 1 Tea Spoon

7. Cumin (زیرہ) Powder: 2 Tea Spoon

8. Chaat Spice (چاٹ مصالحہ) Powder: 2 Tea Spoon

9. Vanaspati (گھی): 1 Table Spoon (Oil can also be used)

10. Ginger (ادرک): 1/2 Tea Spoon

11. Granulated Sugar (باریک چینی): 3 Table Spoon

Procedure:

1. Soak tamarind in hot water in a cup for 30 minutes.

 

2. On low to medium flame jaggery is melted with 1/2 cup of water.

 

3. Strain the melted jaggery to purify it from impurities.

 

4. Remove the kernel (Seeds) & roots from the soaked tamarind.

 

5. Blend the tamarind pulp, dates and 1/2 cup of water for a uniform paste.

 

6. Strain the blended pulp again to remove pieces of roots etc.

 

7. Pour Vanaspati in cooking pan and let it melt.

 

8. Add tamarind pulp & jaggery syrup in it and mix well.

 

9. Followed by salts powders of red chili, chaat spice, cumin & ginger.

 

10. Mix and cook on low to medium flame till the batter become thick.

 

11. Off the flame and let it cool in refrigerator for 1 hour (almost).

 

12. Finally wrap the batter in plastic sheet as per requirement/desire.
