Palak or Channay ki Daal

Spinach (پالک) & Split chickpeas (چنے کی دال) recipe is a combine source of mainly iron and proteins nutrients hence become an energetic recipe. Let us have a look of its making/preparation or cooking in MHK’s own style. We are going to make it in simple, easy and quick way to add an interesting main course meal dish:

Ingredients:

Spinach (پالک): 1/2 Kg (Fine cut & properly washed)

Split Chickpeas (چنے کی دال): 250 Grams (Soaked in water for 1 Hour & rinsed later)

Onion (پیاز): 1X (Medium size, Fine cut)

Oil (تیل): 1X Cup

Tomato (ٹماٹر): 3X (Medium Size) + Green Chili (سبز مرچ): 2X + Ginger (ادرک):1 Inch (Paste)

Kashmiri Red Chili (کشمیری لال مرچ) Powder: 1 Tea Spoon

Red Chili Powder (سرخ مرچ): 1 Tea Spoon

Salt (نمک): 1 Table Spoon (or as per taste)

Turmeric Powder (ہلدی): 1 Tea Spoon

Coriander Powder (دحنیا): 1 Table Spoon

Garlic (لہسن): 2 Table Spoon (Fine Cut)

Cumin Seeds (سفید زیرہ) : 1 Tea Spoon

Hot Spices Powder (گرم مصالحہ پائوڈر): 1 Tea Spoon

Whole Red Chili (ثابت سرخ مرچ) : 5X

Green Chili (سبز مرچ) : 3X (Fine Cut)

Procedure:

Step-1: Pour split chickpeas in cooker along with 3 cups of water, 1/2 Tea Spoon of Turmeric powder, 1/2 Table Spoon of salt, Stir a little. Cover with lid and further cook for 15~20 minutes after the whistle sounds.

 

Step-2: After 15 minutes (Almost) remove the lid and check that whether it is tendered or not.

 

Step-3: Place the pot on low to medium flame, pour oil and when it became hot add cumin and fry a little.

 

Step-4: Add garlic and fry till its smell is felt and colour change into light golden add onion and fry further till its colour is also change into light golden brown.

 

Step-5: Now add green chili, whole red chili (crushed in hands), coriander powder, Turmeric powder, red chili powder, Salt & Kashmiri red Chili. Fry a little while stirring spatula, off the flame and take out some amount for future use.

 

Step-6: Now pour tomato paste in the remaining gravy and fry further on medium flame until oil become visible on it and it became grainy.

 

Step-7: Add spinach and mix well with gravy and steam cook for five minutes.

 

Step-8: Spinach is almost tendered, cook further for 2~3 minutes, when water is dried add split chick peas and mix well.

 

Step-9: Maintain the amount of required gravy by adding hot water as per requirement. Mix well and steam cook for 5 minutes on low to medium flame so that all the ingredients are blended thoroughly.

 

Step-10: Now the gravy is almost ready. Add that fried spice gravy in hot form which was taken out at step-5 and steam cook on low flame for 2 minutes.

 

Step-11: In last sprinkle hot spice and cover with lid and off the flame and serve after a while.
